Metro corridors to crisscross Hyderabad for airport link

Metro corridors to crisscross Hyderabad ...

HYDERABAD: While Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro rail project is expected to be completed by next March barring the old city stretch, the Telangana government has identified the corridors that would be taken up under Phase II of the rail project. Though the exact length of Phase II has not yet been finalized, officials said the focus would be on giving connectivity to airport from all corners of the city.

“Airport connectivity from Raidurg ((Biodiversity Park) to Shamshabad and Falaknuma to airport would be given top priority in Phase II. The basic difference between Phase I of Metro and Phase II is while the three corridors under Phase I were taken up under the public private partnership (PPP) mode, Phase II will be taken up solely by the state government,” chief secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi told TOI on Monday.
The chief secretary said the state government would also complete the rail service from MGBS to Falaknuma, which is part of Phase I, as early as possible. “The ground work is being done for the Old City corridor,” Joshi said.
Metro Phase II: Preliminary report sought to cut time, mobilise funds

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was entrusted to give a detailed project report (DPR) for Phase II a couple of months ago. Since preparation of DPR is a time-consuming exercise, the municipal administration department has sought a preliminary project report (PPR) to begin the process of mobilizing funds for Phase II. Sources said the PPR has been submitted by the DMRC to the state government.
Municipal administration department sources said the preliminary report of DMRC has suggested a 30 km corridor from the Biodiversity Park to Shamshabad, 26 km from BHEL to Lakdikapul and five kms stretch from Nagole to L B Nagar. Since MGBS to Falaknuma stretch got delayed due to alignment issues, it is expected to be ready within one year from the time works begin. The connectivity from Falaknuma to Shamshabad will be taken up in the later stages of Phase II.

The tentative cost of the Phase II would be around ?10,000 crore and the state government has already initiated talks with some financial institutions for borrowings including Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Of the total cost of the project, 60 per cent of the funds would be mobilized from the funding agencies.
The state government is keen on taking up Phase II as it would decongest vehicular traffic in the entire area to a great extent. While the LB Nagar to Ameerpet stretch would be opened for public in August this year, the other stretch that connects the IT corridor from Ameerpet to Hi-Tec City would be ready by October this year. The stretch between JBS to MGBS (as part of Corridor II) would be completed and thrown open for the public by March 2019.
