Meera Sanyal had been battling cancer for two years now.

Meera Sanyal, AAP leader and former CEO of Royal Bank of Scotland in India, passed away at the age of 57 after a two-year battle with cancer.

Meera was born in Kochi in 1961 to Indian Navy Officer Gulab Mohanlal Hiranandani and Banu Hiranandani.

After stepping down from her position as CEO of the Indian unit of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Meera turned to focus on her political career. After joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), she contested as the party’s candidate in the 2017 Lok Sabha elections for the Mumbai South constituency.

In her recently released book, The Big Reverse, she sharply criticised the Central government’s demonetisation move, terming it “an unmitigated disaster.”

The AAP leader had been battling cancer for two years, before she succumbed to the same on Friday night.

Several noted personalities took to Twitter to extend their condolences.

“Just came to knows about the passing away of @meerasanyal ji. One of the most gentle nd grounded people I have known over the years. For past 2 years she fought cancer like a warrior that she was. She will be remembered by thousands like me who were honored to work with her,” tweeted Ankit Lal AAP Social Media Strategist.
