Gunfight between terrorists and security forces underway
In Jammu and Kashmir, two army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were injured in the initial phase of gunfire after a gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in South Kashmir's Shopian village early Tuesday morning.
The injured personnel have been shifted for specialized for treatment to Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar.
Earlier, a gunfight raged between unidentified terrorists and joint security forces at Kumdalan village of Shopian following launch of cordon and search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Two to three terrorist are believed to be trapped in a residential house.
On Monday evening, a Jaish e-muhammad (JeM)-affiliated terrorist was arrested by Indian army from North Kashmir's Kupwara district. Security sources said the terrorist has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Sofi, resident of main town Kakapora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
A pistol and some ammunition was also recovered from his possession. He has been handed over to Sogam police station for further investigations.
