Hyderabad: The popular ‘Ek Shaam Charminar Ke Naam’ event at Charminar and sanitation-themed Sunday Funday at Tank Bund were held here on Sunday evening. The Sunday Funday was commemorated as Swachhata Sunday Funday to celebrate Telangana’s impressive performance in the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021 and to further spread awareness about sanitation. The State has won 12 awards and Hyderabad was declared as the Best Self Sustainable Mega City in the country by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. As a part of the theme-based celebrations, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) staffers stood all along the Tank Bund road and demonstrated the best sanitation practices. Waste segregation, onsite composting and community cleaning were showcased. The food stalls too promoted the theme and displayed a series of products that can be replaced with single-use plastic products. Meanwhile, to promote Telangana Ku Haritha Haram, stalls to distribute saplings were set up by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority at Tank Bund. Over 30 species of saplings wrapped in a paper bag were distributed to the visitors. Besides environmental conservation measures, magicians, face painters, caricature artists and temporary tattoo artists decked up the event. At both the places- Charminar and Tank Bund- people were seen enjoying the food amid pleasant weather.
